Talking Trees

Preparing for and responding to emergency flooding are a priority to Salt Lake County. Equally important is improving our urban canopies (trees/shade). Actions are being taken at Wheeler Historic Farm to ensure:

  • person and property are protected
  • urban forestry continues for generations to come
  • integrity of the dam embankment and detention basin located at the farm

Actions being taken, that directly impact trees, include:

  • Removal of trees, shrubs, and debris near the earthen dam embankment and along Cottonwood Creek
  • Planting new trees in areas outside of the earthen dam embankment and away from Cottonwood Creek

Timeline:

  • Late 2022: Clear downed trees and debris along Cottonwood Creek
  • September–October 2023
    • Remove trees, shrubs, and debris
    • Plant new trees
