Visit

Wheeler Historic Farm is a working farm and public park with 75 acres of natural landscape, park, trails, and backwoods area. A historic farm house, activity barn, stables, gardens, old-fashioned shop, pavilions, playground fort, and an outdoor education center are a few of the amenities available for the public to enjoy, at their leisure, during open hours.

The farm and park are open daily during daylight hours. Guests are encouraged to walk the farm, visit the animals, meet our amazing farm crew, and have a picnic.

Farm House tours are available by reservation, November–May, and Monday–Friday, 11 am–1 pm, June–October.

Milking Demonstration-Demonstration will resume May 2024

Hands-on milking demonstration with one of our farm animals-a cow, goat, or both.

Hours:

  • Monday-Saturday
  • Starts at 5:00 PM

Rates: 

  • Ages 2+: $1 per person
  • Purchase tokens at least 15 minutes prior to the demonstration at the Activity Barn or Country Store.

Wagon Rides

Hop aboard a tractor drawn wagon ride around the outer rim of the farm. The tour pulls you through Wheeler Woods and our back 40 acres of natural landscape.

Wagon Rides are wheelchair accessible.

Rides depart on the hour and ½ hour (weather permitting) and may be sold out at during peak school tour hours.

Farm House Tours

The Wheeler Historic Farm Victorian home began construction in 1896. The home was restored to a turn-of-the-century museum in 1975 as part of the bi-centennial celebration of Salt Lake County. Further renovations took place in 1998-1999.

The Farm has an impressive inventory of over 6000 historic artifacts from the 1890's to the 1940's, many of which are found in the Historic Farm House.

The tour is approximately 1 hour and includes the whole house (upstairs and downstairs). The tour highlights the rooms, their function in the early 1900’s, as well as antiques and artifacts found in the rooms. The lower level of the house is wheelchair accessible.

School tours that include the historic home on their itinerary should note only the main level is included in the school tour.

Rosebud Country Store

Locally made products, including our honey, as well as toys, games, gifts, snacks, drinks, and farm-related items are available for purchase at the Rosebud Country Store.

Store hours are weather dependent, and the store is temporarily closed every November–March.

Animals & Agriculture

Dogs:

Dogs must be on a leash as per Salt Lake County policy.

Our animals are not domestic pets:

Wheeler Historic Farm is not technically a petting zoo. We are a “Working Farm”. Our animals serve an agricultural purpose. Unlike animals you encounter in your daily travels, our farm animals are not pets. They are not domesticated and may likely think your fingers are carrots. We ask you please do not feed your fingers (or other items) to the animals. They are well fed on a special diet.

Donating animals is not allowed:

Unfortunately we cannot accept animals donations. Please do not drop them off at our facility.
