Salt Lake County Hosts Its 6th Annual Earth Day Festival
What:
Salt Lake County Health Department (SLCoHD) 6th Annual Earth Day Festival,
where students from elementary schools near the Environmental Health (EH)
Division offices are invited to join EH staff to learn about sustainability and
environmentally friendly practices, as well as about what the EH division does in
Salt Lake County.
Salt Lake County Youth Services will also announce its annual “I Make a Difference” teen art and media contest winners; this year’s contest theme was focused on Earth Day and environmental responsibility.

“I Make a Difference” contest winners
Over 400 elementary-school students throughout the day
Photo Op:
Mayor McAdams and hundreds of elementary students engaging in hands-on
activities to learn how the environment affects our health. Salt Lake County
Youth Services after-school program participants from Hunter High School will
also be on-hand as mentors for the younger kids.
Mayor McAdams and the students will:
- Learn about the importance of water conservation—especially this year
- Learn about alternative fuel vehicles and alternative transportation, including cycling
- See invasive weeds and learn about the harm they cause native plants
- Plant their own seedlings to take home
- Spend time in the health department’s community garden and fruit orchard
