The State of Utah’s “transmission index” guidelines require any establishment that allows public gatherings (such as live events, movie theatres, sporting events, weddings, recreation, and entertainment) to:
- Require face coverings on all attendees/patrons (performers/athletes are exempt while performing/playing)
- Ensure 6 feet of physical distance between household groups
- Complete the state's COVID-19 Event Management Template
If an event or venue can successfully accomplish these things, the public gathering may proceed without further permission from Salt Lake County Health Department. There is no defined limit on the number of attendees as long as all household groups remain physically distanced—the maximum allowed number of attendees is determined by the size of the venue.
(Note that casual social gatherings without organizational or venue oversight [like family gatherings, book clubs, get-togethers with friends] are subject to a 10-person limit, but this limit does not apply to public gatherings with organizational oversight.)
Due to our current elevated transmission rates, at this time Salt Lake County will not be accepting requests for exception to these requirements.
