Clark Planetarium brings on new associate director

SALT LAKE CITY – Clark Planetarium is pleased to announce the hiring of its new Assistant Director Tim Glenn, who will oversee Clark Planetarium’s customer-facing departments including customer service, reservations and building operations, development, membership and marketing.         

Glenn joins the Planetarium after leading the John Wesley Powell River History Museum in Green River, Utah, as its Executive Director, for the past six years.

One of Glenn’s areas of focus there was evolving the museum to adopt a long-term community outreach and sustainability plan. As part of this plan, Glenn initiated a collaborative effort to truly listen to community. Through this two-way communication, Glenn and his team implemented creative, new programming as well as sustainability-focused innovations.

Among his greatest accomplishments was Glenn’s successful effort to move the museum out of a $300,000 deficit to the city of Green River. 

“From ensuring that the museum was financially well-run, to building stronger engagement with the community, Tim’s impact at the John Wesley Powell River Museum set the organization up for long lasting success,” said Clark Planetarium Director Lindsie Smith.

Smith added, “I’m excited to have him join the Clark Planetarium team and have him help us continue to strengthen the Planetarium’s impact in our community.”

As a division of Salt Lake County, Clark Planetarium is subsidized by taxpayers. As such, Glenn plans to evaluate spending, ensuring the museum is as self-sustaining as possible, while still maintaining the Planetarium as an affordable educational and entertainment option for a diverse range of residents.

Glenn holds a bachelor’s degree in history as well as a Master of Arts Degree in U.S. History from the University of Utah. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Utah Department of Heritage & Arts and is an accomplished musician and published author.
